The polls have closed in Austria's special election called after a video sting operation against the anti-mass immigration Freedom Party.


The Freedom Party is still standing in spite of the situation, but with a reduced share of the vote.     Almost all the votes counted showing it with almost 17.3 percent of the vote.  The Socialists with just over 21.5 percent of the vote.   The People's Party at 38.35 percent of the vote leading the other parties.   Its leader Sebastian Kurz expected to become Chancellor again.


The Greens at 12.35 percent of the vote and the pro-European Union NEOS party at about 7.4 percent.

The talks to form a new government in Israel continued Sunday.    The leading party, Blue and White, says its being pressured to accept the leader of the second place party Likud Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister.


Israel's President Reuven Rivlin is pushing for a "unity government".   He is a former chairman of the Likud Party.


Blue and White leader Benny Gantz will meet Netanyahu on Wednesday.



As Israel moved into the Rosh Hashanah New Year holiday, details of the upcoming pre-indictment hearing involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came out.


The evidence review hearing will be spread out over two weeks and start on Wednesday.

From Saudi Arabia the news of the murder of a bodyguard of King Salman.  A friend said to have killed him in a dispute with police called and many injured in a shootout.   There are also claims that Maj. Gen Abdul Aziz bin Badah al-Fagham was assassinated with Crown Prince Mohammed bin-Salman, the de-facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, blamed for the killing.

The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen have released video to back up their claim of a major ambush operation that resulted in thousands of Saudi coalition troops being killed or captured.


The video first shows a military briefing followed by video of rebels ambushing a military convoy along a highway.   Then destroyed vehicles are shown with prisoners being captured.   Many dead bodies are also part of the 24 minute long video.

The United States conducted an operation over the weekend to shift command and control of air forces in the Middle East from Qatar to Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.    The shift of control lasted for 24 hours.   More from the "Washington Post".......LINK



The Syria Air Force continued airstrikes against jihadist opposition forces in Latakia province Sunday for the seventh day in a row.    The jihadists have regularly broken the cease-fire in the region prompting the Syrian strikes.    More from "Southfront"....LINK


Turkey says its air force shot down a drone that violated the country's airspace six times on Sunday.   The Turks say they don't know that the nationality of the drone.


Turkey's main opposition party the CHP is opposing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's policy of hostility towards the Assad regime in Syria.   The CHP for the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Syria.



CVS in the United States has stopped selling Zantac.    The heartburn medication under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration for impurities.     Canada and France have recalled ranitidine products over the concerns that a carcinogen is present in them.



The stories are emerging of abuse at a Muslim religious school in northern Nigeria.   Police raided the facility in the city of Kaduna last week and found students had been beaten, starved, chained and sexually abused.


Seven arrests have been made and there is concern about abuse at similar institutions in the predominately Muslim north of the country.

From the political drama in Washington President Trump says he would like to meet the "whistle blower" being touted in the "impeachment inquiry".


Presidential advisor Stephen Miller told "Fox News Sunday":



"This individual is a saboteur trying to undermine a democratically elected government"



President Trump's supporters asserting on the Sunday shows that there was corruption in Ukraine that needs to be investigated thoroughly including the lucrative dealings of Joe Biden's son Hunter reported making 50-thousand dollars a month as a "consultant" in that country.
