The US Justice Department investigating automakers Ford, Honda, BMW and Volkswagen for colluding with California's state government to establish anti-pollution standards that make cars more expensive for consumers. 


That news being reported by "The Wall Street Journal".


Federal prosecutors want actress Felicity Huffman to do one month in prison for her role in the college admissions bribery case and pay a 20-thousand dollar fine.

Her lawyers recommending one year of probation, 250 hours of community service and a 20-thousand dollar fine.

The US Navy firing three leaders of its elite SEAL Team 7 Friday for "loss of confidence" after allegations of misconduct in one of the platoons under their command including sexual assault and alcohol use.

Democracy protesters clashing with police in Hong Kong Friday night outside a subway station.

The Beijing appointed chief executive in the territory, Carrie Lam, withdrawing a controversial extradition bill this week but the pro-democracy activists say the move comes too late.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Friday that the central government supports Lam in her efforts to end what he called "violence and chaos".

The premier spoke at a news conference in Beijing with the visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.


During her visit to China Merkel has said that Germany is open to Chinese investment.


An opposition politician in Turkey sentenced to nearly ten years in prison for her tweets that were called "terror propaganda and insults" against the Turkish state led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.


Canan Kaftancioglu is from CHP Party that recently won the election for mayor in Turkey's largest city Istanbul.    She leads the CHP in that city.


She remains free pending appeal.   


The mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, said:


"There is no justice in the country....judges look towards the palace..."




The longtime President of Zimbabwe until he was deposed from power by the military in 2017, Robert Mugabe, is dead at the age of 95.

The current ruler Emerson Mnangagwa hailed Mugabe as a "icon of liberation" but as the years passed in his country following colonial rule and independence as a white ruled country known as Rhodesia, conditions in Zimbabwe worsened.

There was less political freedom and a deteriorating economy with food shortages.    There were deaths and imprisonment as the result of his repressive policies.

Opposition forces were prosecuted and persecuted by Mugabe, who political beliefs were Marxist-Leninist (Communist).    Mugabe was referred to as "Comrade Robert Mugabe" in the Communist style.

Opposition Senator David Coltart noted in a tweet that the negative aspects of Mugabe's rule live on under the rule of the current regime in the country.

 Mugabe is widely viewed as a "fighter for liberation" because of white minority rule in his country that he led a war against in the 1970's and was hailed by the government of neighboring South Africa as a "liberation fighter".

The blacklisted Iranian oil tanker "Adrian Darya 1" is said to have arrived in Syria.   The United States had targeted the tanker for being a source of oil for Syria in violation of sanctions against that country.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen continuing their almost daily drone attacks on Saudi targets early Friday.     The latest attack on what the Houthi call a "key military target".

Later today the Houthi's claiming a missile attack on hangars for Saudi drones at southern Saudi Arabia's Narjan airport.


Two killed in weekly rioting on Gaza's border with Israel Friday.   The Hamas organization that runs Gaza vowed revenge for the killings.    Five rockets fired at Israel Friday night and Israeli retaliatory strikes later in the night.


Polling ahead of Israel's election by Channel 12 and Channel 13 shows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tied with Benny Gantz's Blue and White Party tied in first place at 32 seats each.    In second place Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu at 11 seats with 9-10 seats for the conservative Yamina party led by Ayelet Shaked.


Neither the "Right" nor "Left" appear to be able to get past 60 seats to a majority in the 120 seat Knesset. based on the polling with Yisrael Beiteinu holding enough seats to potentially help either side achieve that majority.


LGBTQ activists attacking  NFL quarterback Drew Brees for his involvement in a "Bring Your Bible To School" video produced by the Focus on the Family organization.

Brees responded to the attack calling him a "bigot" who is aligned with a "hateful group" via Instagram saying a deceptive article is falsely smearing him.

An American Airlines mechanic is charged with damaging an aircraft in July by gluing a piece of foam inside a navigation system to prevent it from working.   The BBC reports.......LINK


No change in the nation's unemployment rate in August.   It remains at 3.7 percent.    130-thousand new jobs added with mainstream media citing that number as evidence of a slowing economy.

And finally Hurricane Dorian now with maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour moving northeast at 25 miles per hour taking aim at Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada where its expected to arrive around 8 PM Eastern US time Saturday night.
