NEWS SUMMARY-INTELLIGENCE REPORT SUNDAY 9/1/2019





The situation on the Israel-Lebanon border heated up today but first.......




A note of protest from Russia over Saturday's US attack in Russia's "deconfliction zone" in northwestern Syria.


The US attack targeting Al Qaeda leaders fighting the Assad regime in Syria, a government strongly opposed by the United States, came after Russia declared a unilateral cease-fire in the area Saturday morning.


Russia and Syria have contended that during the Syrian Civil War of the last seven plus years that the United States has been on the side of Al-Qaeda in Syria.


Now those Al-Qaeda forces are facing defeat and even annihilation in the face of the Syria government's offensive, backed by Russian aerospace forces  (Air Force).


AN ATTACK REPORTED ON ISRAEL DEFENSE FORCES ON THE LEBANESE BORDER SUNDAY AFTERNOON.    NO ISRAELI CASUALTIES REPORTED.


ISRAEL FIRED BACK INTO SOUTHERN LEBANON IN RESPONSE TO AN ATTACK ON A MILITARY BASE.


Earlier Sunday there was an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon, shelling the "Shebaa Farms" area near the Israeli border.


Israeli drones also reported dropping incendiary devices that caused brush fires in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.


Israel is acknowledging a military operation in the area near the Lebanese border.

In the evening Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is ready for any eventuality.    "Haaretz" summarizes the situation in recent hours....LINK


On the "Sic Semper Tyrannis" blog today retired US Army Colonel Pat Lang thinks Israel is "going for broke" in Lebanon and that one has the wonder whether if the United States will be involved in case of mass civilian casualties in Israel....LINK


Elections in Israel on September 17th and in their aftermath the legal process of indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in three separate corruption cases with an evidence review hearing set for early October.



From the war in Yemen the Red Cross says that more than 100 were killed in a Saudi-coalition air attack on a prison Sunday.

The US provides support for the Saudi-coalition fighting in Yemen.



The latest word from German state elections in Brandenburg and Saxony is that the anti-mass immigration Alternative for Germany has made big gains in both states.


The AfD reaching its highest percentage of the vote ever in both states in the midst of controversies including a judicial ruling to take some of its candidates off the ballot in Saxony.

A man of Afghan nationality identified as the knife attacker near Lyon, France Saturday.   One killed and eight wounded in the attack.


The attacker held a French residency card and is said by a French prosecutor to have been under the influence of marijuana atthe time.



The prosecutor said of the attacker:



"He said he was a Muslim and heard in the afternoon voices insulting God and ordering him to kill"



Police in Texas identified the man involved in the drive by mass murder attack Saturday in Midland and Odessa as Seth Ator, age 36.


Ator had been recently fired from his job and was being pulled over by Texas state troopers on Saturday for failing to signal a left turn when he began to open fire.


Seven now reported dead and 22 wounded in the attack.



The Argentine government imposing currency restrictions Sunday as it tries to stabilize its currency, the peso.


Restrictions involve the purchase of US dollars and the transfer of money out of the country.


HURRICANE DORIAN


The intense Category 5 hurricane is battering the northwestern Bahamas Sunday night with slow movement.


The eye of the hurricane passing over the eastern side of Grand Bahama Island late Sunday evening.


The 11 pm Eastern US time advisory on Hurricane Dorian has the storm with maximum sustained winds of 180 miles per hour and gusts over 200 miles per hour.   It is centered 55 miles east of Freeport in the Bahamas and 135 miles east of West Palm Beach in Florida.


The storm expected to turn north away from a direct hit on the southeastern coast of the United States but to move slowly northeastward off the coast during the coming week.


States of emergency declared in four US states with new evacuation orders Sunday for residents in Georgia and South Carolina.


And finally today is the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War 2 with a remembrance in Poland today.    The United States represented by Vice-President Mike Pence.  Pence replacing President Trump who is staying home to monitor Hurricane Dorian.
