The results from the state elections in two German states Sunday show a record level of support for the anti-mass immigration Alternative for Germany.

In Brandenburg the AfD racking up 23.5 percent of the popular vote, greater than its 20.2 percent in the 2017 federal election and 19.9 percent in the European election earlier this year.

And in Saxony the AfD total was 27.5 percent of the popular vote, greater than the 27 percent in the 2017 federal election and 25.3 percent in the European election earlier this year.

A big bleeding of support away from "mainstream" political parties with the Social Democrats slightly leading the AfD in Brandenburg and the Christian Democratic Union slightly leading in Saxony.  Those parties will have to scramble with each other and the Greens to form governing coalitions that would keep the AfD out of power.
