US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the attack on Saudi oil facilities early Saturday morning was done by Iran.

Pompeo also claiming in essence that the attacks were launched from Iran, not from Yemen by tweeting:

"There is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen"

This may be an attempt to goad the Houthi rebels of Yemen into revealing how their drones operate by providing more proof of their activities that can be used against them militarily.

The Iranian backed rebels from Yemen who've been fighting a Saudi-led military coalition backed by the United States claimed responsibility for the attacks and said they used 10 drones.

Saudi Arabia was forced to cut its oil production in half because of the attacks which amounts to five percent of the worlds oil supply.

Mr. Pompeo also saying the US is working with other nations to ensure energy supplies and to:

"hold Iran responsible for its aggression"

As for Iran, it says US accusations of their involvement are part of a "campaign of deceit".

Iran saying that it rejects the "lies" of the United States.

The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities and called on those involved in the situation to prevent any escalation.

President Trump's tweeting Sunday night included this statement:

"Saudi Arabia's oil supply was attacked.   There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!"

The President has authorized release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, if needed, to stabilize oil markets.

Early reporting on oil markets is that Brent crude is up 19 percent to $71.95 a barrel with West Texas Intermediate jumping 15 percent to $63.64.

Later reporting as of 11 pm Eastern time US Sunday indicates a stabilizing of oil prices at a rate 10 percent higher than before.
