"I can show you,  I'm bleeding from my ear, that's the job of the police..."

Loic Prudhomme, National Assembly Deputy From Gironde, Twitter Video 3/2/2019

Loic Prudhomme, member of the FI (France Insubordinate) for the National Assembly, says police in Bordeaux bludgeoned him as he went to his bike following today's protest there.

He posted a video showing his ear bleeding on Twitter.   Prudhomme said he's ready to report what happened to him to the Inspector General of Police.

Prudhomme spoke out against the government and Interior Minister Christophe Castaner:

"Pummeled while I left the demonstration quietly Christophe Castaner and the prefecture of Aquitaine, police violence do not exist?   That's enough you sow chaos!"

Police were in the vicinity of Prudhomme when he posted the video and that tightness of the police around the protesters was noted in Paris today as the demonstrations began.

Loic Prudhomme said the policeman involved clubbed him then said:

'You will be summoned Mr. Prudhomme because you are taking part in a forbidden gathering'

Prudhomme's political party FI has called for the resignation of Emmanuel Macron's Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner.

The National Assembly members of France Insubordinate issued a statement Saturday night reading in part:

"Last Tuesday Emmanuel Macron crossed a threshold in the intimidation of the protesters, believing that those who went to an event likely to degenerate were guilty of the worst.  Police received this message 5/5 for Act 16.  With impunity they clubbed in Bordeaux our colleague Loic Prudhomme who was peacefully leaving the demonstration.    They did it consciously after recognizing the function of Loic…..

Any bludgeoning of a peaceful protester is scandalous, but hitting a deputy symbolizes the current authoritarian drift....."

The local prefecture is defending police saying the demonstration was "undeclared".

Officially 39,900 are estimated by the government to have protested in France today including 4000 in Paris, down from 46,600 a week ago.

But the Yellow Vests official figures show 92,035 demonstrators today, down from 123,087 a week ago.
