On Wednesday morning the theme of mainstream media is of increased violence at the Freedom Camp protest that began as a Freedom Convoy protest to New Zealand's capital city of Wellington.

Yesterday there were intense police movements around the protest including the erection and or movement of concrete barriers as a means to cause distress to the protesters and scare them into leaving.

Current politicians are unwilling to speak with the protest about its call for the lifting of vaccine and other COVID mandates in New Zealand, but former politicians have spoken out.

Former Prime Minister Jim Bolger of the National Party has spoken in favor of government talks with the protest.

And yesterday the former Deputy Prime Minister in Jacinda Ardern's last government, Winston Peters, visited the protest site.

Peters New Zealand First party wiped out in the election last year after it supported the gun confiscation measures following the mosque massacres in Christchurch in 2018.

A young girl gave Peters an envelope to be opened up when he got home.

It read:

"# 1 Thank for being in Wellington to fight for freedom, You are a hero to me...Love Lacey"...WINSTON PETERS TWITTER

Another part of the government's strategy to end this protest is a willingness to reach some members of it by sending in the government's "Chief Human Rights Commissioner" to speak with some protesters about issues related to vaccine mandates including the loss of jobs.

Paul Hunt went out of his way to condemn the protest along the lines offered up by the mainstream media but also said:

"It is clear that the protesters I have met with have very real stories of loss and suffering.

They feel broken and discarded due to the impact of Covid-19 health measures on their lives.

These are people who have lost loved ones, who have suffered severe side effects of vaccination, and lost jobs."

NEW ZEALAND'S CHIEF HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSIONER PAUL HUNT-WEDNESDAY 2/23/2022

That's part of what Mr. Hunt is saying for now.    Does it mean any change in government policies or action.  It does not.   But it's designed to meet protester demands in hopes that protesters will go away.

Today New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern met with protest by opponents of COVID mandates as she visited a community impacted by flooding recently.   The incident headlined as "abuse" by One News in New Zealand...FREE REPUBLIC POST AND DISCUSSION...

"I choose not to focus on what often is a handful of people.  I focus on the majority of people who have gone out 99 percent of them have been vaccinated and that is what is going to get us through"-

That is what Prime Minister Ardern had to say in part following her encounter with protesters Wednesday in Westport...(One News New Zealand)

FOR THE FIRST TIME WEDNESDAY NEW ZEALAND REPORTING MORE THAN THREE THOUSAND POSITIVE TESTS FOR COVID.   THE VACCINES USELESS IN PREVENTING ILLNESS IN THE 'OMICRON' PHRASE.

Another item in the news is that protesters from the South Island are heading by boat private vessels across the water to Wellington to join the protest camp.   The MSM reporting accompanied by warnings about the danger of being out in the open water on a smaller vessel.

(1030 PM EASTERN US TIME TUESDAY, 430 PM NEW ZEALAND TIME WEDNESDAY)

There's plenty of disparaging material in the mainstream media about how threatening the protest is to students at schools located in the area and even a story in the New Zealand about protesters "licking their hands" from the "New Zealand Herald".

WINSTON PETERS INTERVIEWED ABOUT HIS VISIT TO PROTEST SITE

But one article in the "New Zealand Herald" is worth a look at.

Winston Peters "unmasked" meeting with the protesters is covered with Peters explaining himself.

First on the mask matter Peters who is triple jabbed said unless he wore a "highly surgical" type of mask any mask was useless against COVID.

Peters is upset that the government refuses to talk with the protesters and says:

"if it doesn't I fear there are going to be further problems or violence"

Peters says most protesters are law abiding and peaceful.  He noted some at the protest have lost jobs they held for 30 years.

Another observation his sense that the protest is growing and not declining as police have been saying in the last day or so...
