The United States is moving a Patriot missile battery to the Middle East due to an Iranian threat.
That's the word from Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.
Also word that an additional warship will join the other ships of the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group in the Persian Gulf.
The USS Arlington carries amphibious vehicles and aircraft.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visiting Russia Monday and Tuesday. Pompeo in Moscow Monday and Sochi on Tuesday.
A senior State Department official told the media Friday that Pompeo will be discussing the cases of US citizens being held in Russia including Paul Whelan. Whelan accused of spying by the Russians.
Russian media reporting bringing up the possibility that Pompeo will meet in person with President Vladimir Putin.

In what she says is an act inconsistent with the tradition of free nations like Canada, Canadian Senator Lynn Beyak has been suspended. It was alleged that letters were on her website disparaging indigenous people.
"This type of penalty is totalitarian and, as such, alien to the tradition of free nations like Canada"
she said in the Senate on Thursday, the day of her suspension.
Beyak was already under disdain for comments following sexual abuse cases involving institutions serving First Nations people native to Canada,
She said there was good done by the institutions, many of them religious, in spite of the abuse cases,
Her suspension is until the next General Election later this year, she will not be paid, must attend educational programs on racism and is expected to apologize to the Senate.
A French military operation in the African nation of Burkina Faso has freed four hostages including an American citizen, a South Korean and two Frenchmen. The operation staged overnight Thursday with two French soldiers killed.
The hostages being held by an Islamist terrorist group originally taken in the neighboring country of Benin and being taken to Mali to be turned over to another terrorist group.
The hostages set to meet French President Emmanuel Macron at 6 pm Paris time Saturday.
In northern Syria Friday a counterattack by jihadist forces beaten back by the Syrian military. A Syrian reporter was injured in the fighting Friday and just came out of a coma Saturday morning.

The United States Treasury Department warning Friday that members of the defense and intelligence services in Venezuela and those supporting them could be subject to sanctions.
Several Venezuelan National Assembly members have taken refuge in foreign embassies after the Maduro regime too away their immunity from prosecution. The Vice-President of the legislature was arrested by secret police Wednesday night after his immunity was removed.
National Assembly President and Interim President of Venezuela Juan Guaido has called for demonstrations on the streets of Venezuela Saturday.
In the UK, Prime Minister Theresa May is supposed to offer a "clear understanding" of her future plans.
At least that's what the Conservative Party's "1922 Committee" Chairman Sir Graham Brady is saying to the BBC.
May has spoken about resigning if her controversial "Brexit" proposal passes Parliament.
Brady saying that she will meet the committee next Wednesday.
With Mrs. May on the skids and Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn often the subject of negative news stories about controversy, the mainstream media seems to have found a politician to like and promote.
Nigel Farage of the new Brexit Party getting positive spin from not just the newspapers that normally support the Conservative Party, but plenty of hype from the most politically correct of British media outlets, the BBC.
Farage making numerous appearances at "the Beeb" and he has a new appearance on Sunday morning's "Andrew Marr Show" lined up at 10am.
On the other hand United Kingdom Independence Party candidates like Carl Benjamin (aka "Sargon of Akkad") are on the streets taking the insults from left-wing protesters.

Algerians protesting Friday in the capital of Algiers demanding that government officials linked to the former president Abdelaziz Bouteflika should leave office.
The Interim President Abdelkader Bensaleh and Prime Minister Noureddine Badawi are among those they would like to see leave. The interim leaders promising new presidential elections in July after the former president resigned last month.
President Trump upbeat on trade talks with China as they broke off Friday. The tariffs imposed Friday will only affect new goods coming from China to the US, not those already in transit.
Tariffs on consumer goods like clothing are still being held in reserve as the President continues his strategy to get concessions from China and a change in the trading relationship between the US and China.
Lawyers for Israel's Prime Minister making their move right before the Sabbath Friday to delay a hearing to review the evidence against Benjamin Netanyahu in three corruption cases where Israel's Attorney General says he wants to put Netanyahu on trial.
The lawyers say their fees have not been paid but AG Avechai Mandelblit has already said that the fee issue is no excuse for a delay in what is called a "pre-indictment hearing".
Mandelblit's top assistant says that if no hearing is held, the process will move forward without one.

One topic sure to be discussed is Turkey's planned acquisition of the S-400 air defense system from Russia.
Melvut Cavusoglu says the purchase is a go and there is no backing away even though the US is backing away from allowing Turkey to obtain F-35 aircraft because of the S-400 purchase citing it as a threat.
Cavusoglu wants the US to agree to a joint working group to assess whether the S-400 in Turkey would pose a threat to NATO.
The Russian news agency Tass reported earlier this week that Turkish military personnel will start training in Russia at the end of the month on how to operate the S-400, due for delivery in July,

That was part of the message from Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan Thursday night in Chicago. Farrakhan invited to St. Sabina Catholic Church by its controversial spiritual leader, Father Michael Pfleger, one week after he and other "dangerous individuals" were banned from Facebook and Instagram.
Farrakhan denying he was an anti-Semite and saying that "the enemy is so hateful of me" and that "I have never been arrested".

From the Washington rough and tumble the House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Democrat Richard Neal of Massachusetts, subpoenaing the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service for six years of President Trump's federal tax returns for personal and business purposes.
Neal's subpoenas have a deadline of next Friday.
Two Republican Senate committee chairman want documents related to British intelligence operative Christopher Steele. Steele compiled an infamous dossier that fueled spying on President Trump's campaign in 2016 by the FBI and utlimately to the Robert Mueller investigation.
Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson and Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley want documents related to Steele from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
