Letter Of Doctor Sanchez Of The University Hospital Of Reims To The Family Of Vincent Lambert
The media in France have been reporting on the case of 42-year old Vincent Lambert, injured in an auto accident in 2008, described as being in a " chronic irreversible vegetative state".
On April 24th France's Council of State handed down the death sentence for Lambert and his parents appealed to the European Court of Human Rights which rejected their appeal.
An appeal to the UN International Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities elicited a request to France to suspend taking away food and water from Lambert until a hearing could be held.
But France's Health Minister Agnes Buzyn said France was "not obliged" to honor the request.
So on the week of May 20th food and water will be taken away from Vincent Lambert and drugs to hasten death will be administered.
The parents lawyers say there is:
"no justification for such a blatant violation of international law and interim measures requested by the UN"
The quadriplegic man was injured in a road accident in September 2008,
