VENEZUELA LATEST: A NEW PRESIDENT WITHOUT THE GUNS TO BACK HIM UP
"The citizens of Veneuzuela have suffered for too long at the hands of the illegitimate Maduro regime. Today, I have officially recognized the President of the Venezuelan Natiomal Assembly, Juan Guaido, as the Interim President of Venezuela"
Donald J. Trump On Twitter 1/23/2019-LINK
Guaido is committed to holding new elections in the country and told the crowd protests would continue in the country:
"until Venezuela is liberated"
But around the crowds riot police firing tear gas to suppress the crowds and President Nicolas Maduro trying to show his legitimacy even as most Latin American countries, the United States, Canada and the European Union no longer recognize Maduro as president.
US President Donald J. Trump began a cascade of announcements today formalizing recognition of Guaido as the legitimate President of Venezuela. Annoucements recognizing Guido came from Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador as well as from Canada.
Maduro moved to break off diplomatic relations with the US later in the day. He gave the US diplomats 72 hours to get out.
But the new President Juan Guaido has asked all embassies to remain in the country saying that none of them need to obey Maduro's order to leave.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned about any harm coming to Americans in Venezuela and the possibility of US oil sanctions on Venezuela is being reported in the media as well.
Pompeo urged the military and police in Venezuela to protect all citizens in the country and foreign diplomats but they still appear loyal to the Maduro regime.
Mexico, Bolivia and Cuba still recognizing Maduro was Venezuela's president.
(COMMENT AND ANALYSIS)
The Globalists, the Corporatists, the "Russia Haters", call them what you will are tying regime change in Venezuela but when I remember what the Russian writer, the prophet Alexander Solzehnitsyn offered to us I am reminded of the evil that is Communism, the evil of the system in Venezuela.
This "regime change" will not drive refugees or migrants into other countries by the millions like the Syrian intervention did, but on the contrary it will get the millions that already fled to other countries back home to Venezuela.
So onward we go to hopefully a positive end but an end that will likely not be without pain or suffering in the interim.
Maduro can ratchet things up but he's sure to get some sort of response with the tightening of economic sanctions and perhaps even some military intervention in the border regions by Colombia and Brazil to establish "safe zones" or "humanitarian corridors".
(LATE ADDITION; REPORTS FROM VENEZUELA SAY 14 HAVE BEEN SHOT DEAD BY THE SECURITY FORCES IN THE LAST 48 HOURS)
