ARUTZ SHEVA STORY WITH ATTACK VIDEO FROM ISRAEL EMBEDDED

BREAKING NEWS:  ISRAEL LAUNCHES TWO WAVES OF ATTACKS ON SYRIA, SAYS IRANIAN TARGETS HIT

(ADDITIONAL INFO ADDED EARLY MONDAY)

There were expectations of a stronger Israeli response following the air attack on a Damascus airport mid-day Sunday and the missile launches at the Golan Heights in retaliation.

And it came just after 1 am local time early Monday with a series of air attacks on targets in Syria that Israel says are Iranian with Israel acknowledging it also hit Syrian air defenses.

Syrian air defenses went into action.

The Israel Defense Forces said:

"We have started striking Iranian Quds targets in Syrian territory.  We warn the Syrian Armed Forces against attempting to harm Israeli forces or territory"

The Syrians say they shot down several enemy targets.

Loud explosions were heard over Damascus.

Al-Masdar News in Lebanon reported that a Syrian radar station at Al-Sweida was hit.

The Syrians acknowledged that they were unable to stop all the missiles fired at targets in the Damascus area community of Al-Kisweh.

The IDF says around 10 targets were hit including ones at the Damascus International Airport.

Visiting the African nation of Chad Sunday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:

"We have a set policy, to target the Iranian entrenchment in Syria"

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there were fatalities as a result of the Israeli air attacks, but had no further details.

One Twitter posting indicated that two Syrian soldiers had been killed.

But a later report from the RIA Russian news agency said four Syrian soldiers died in the attacks.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports 11 dead, including two Syrians.

The Russian news agency TASS reports Syrian air defenses took out more than 30 cruise missiles and guided bombs fired by the Israelis.  Late story here....TASS ON SYRIAN DEFENSES
