BATTLE OF BREXIT:  REMAINERS RUN POLITICAL MACHINE, THEY STOP AT NOTHING TO STOP BREXIT

(COMMENT AND ANALYSIS)

"I think there's now a genuine a genuine danger that we may end up having a second referendum on the EU.   Huge forces are working on this, and will try to get their way in the weeks to come.  Prepare for an ambush"

Peter Hitchens-"Mail On Sunday" Column 1/12/2019

"I think what they're going to do to us is they're going to extend Article 50.  I think in time they will able to force a second referendum upon us.  I'm not certain of that, but they may.    And we have two.

I have two, you have two choices.

One is that we allow ourselves to be ground down to give up and let them win.  The other is that we're defiant"

One of the most momentous weeks in British politics and in the House of Commons is upon us with the Brexit debate with a hundred or so of the 600 plus members actually willing to open up the possibility of a "no-deal' Brexit  by their rejection of the Theresa May deal with European Union.

Its a deal that Brexit activists and certainly a plurality of public opinion and most of those who voted for Brexit in the referendum see as a sellout of their vote.

As is often the case the political machine is at odds with those who work and live at a grassroots level and vote in elections where politicians promise one thing and deliver another.

Prime Minister Theresa May who committed herself to Brexit and said she would deliver is now saying Brexit is more likely not to happen if her plan is rejected on Tuesday.

Labor's Jeremy Corbyn promising a vote of no-confidence in May's government if the Brexit proposal goes down in the expected Tuesday night vote.

There's plenty of political intrigue in the air with some Conservative MP's already going with the opposition in a vote last week to demonstrate they can scuttle Brexit as Brexit activists would like to see it, a "no-deal" withdrawal with the European Union.

The Speaker of the House, John Bercow, also making rulings to undermine May's government and help the various opposition forces in the House.

But sadly the harsh reality of an anti-Brexit majority in the House of Commons points to the stark reality of the will of the people as expressed in the Brexit referendum being delayed, ignored or destroyed in the days and months ahead.

Gerard Batten, the leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, tweeted this on Sunday:

"As I have consistently said for the 25 years UKIP has been in existence, the UK will only leave the EU when a patriotic government takes control of the process & pursues unconditional withdrawal.  Don't ask how we leave-tell the EU how we leave"
