I was in Ohio with my father in the early 1970's visiting my uncle who took us out to edge of his property where he looked across to the next one expressing his contempt for those who lived there who's child died 50 years ago today at Kent State University.

My uncle's generation went to war and did their duty and could not understand why the next one was not doing the same.

In retrospect I can say his generation fought wars to win them, what our leaders got us into in Vietnam was a policing action stopping short of all out war fearing nuclear war with the USSR.

HECK A NUCLEAR WAR WOULD HAVE BEEN BAD FOR BUSINESS, REALLY BAD, SO THERE WAS NO WAY BUSINESS WOULD ALLOW POLITICS TO FIGHT ALL-OUT WAR IN THE NUCLEAR AGE.

Vietnam and the violent protests, deaths over there tens to thousands and some over here in protests, what a waste.

The waste began in Korea and we mentioned the TV series "M*A*S*H" to start the weekend "Unplugged" post.

Vietnam was a financial drain, too, compounded by the incremental socialist step called "The Great Society".

We are so much more socialist now to the tune of tens of trillions of dollars (25 trillion dollars) of national debt.

We've added two and half trillion on so far to fight the "Coronavirus War".....

I came home from school 50 years ago today and watched the news at 6:30 on NBC. The networks gave us the news on TV back then (NBC, CBS, ABC).

David Bowie's "Space Oddity" wasn't my kind of music in the 1970's but I remember it well from some friends who played it because it was their kind of music.

"Major Tom" reminds us of a current "Hero" in the UK Captain Tom who's now Colonel Tom because he raised tens of millions for that icon of British Socialism the National Health Service in the midst of the cororonavirus situation.

Captain Tom Moore served in World War II and this BBC video captures the flyover in his honor for his 100th birthday, a flyover above his house last Thursday......

Of course the British people got their socialism after two devastating wars (World War I and World War II) that involved loss of human life, disruption of normal life and economic downsizing following both. The nation owed money to the USA following the WW I and was deeper in the hole follow WW II.

The Liberal Party was in power and the Conservative Party as well during these wars but a new party in the UK surged in support following the First World War achieving a share of power at times and in 1945 swept to absolute power in the rubble of World War II in a landslide to introduce Socialism like the National Health Service to the UK......

George Orwell has very concerned about the future of his country when he wrote "1984" in "1948".

"Ingsoc" is an expression in his book that is shorthand for "English Socialism" and notice how "Ingsoc" seems to glorify in war and hatred .....

Gasoline prices moving downwards in a lot of places but still lagging here in York, PA. Last summer I paid 30 cents more a gallon for gas in Springfield, Illinois but now I could get gas there for 1.70 a gallon and in some cases even lower like 1.54 or even 1.50. Here in York the lower price major distributors of gasoline finally hitting 199.9 a gallon today in a widespread way.

Socialism and war I guess one should note that America's wounded warriors provided a rationale for the establishment of taxpayer funded facilities to treat them. We now know them at Veterans Administration Hospitals.
