The Russian pipe laying vessel Academic Cherskiy has reached Danish waters on a journey that began on the other side of the world earlier this year.

Russia sent the vessel in a bid to complete the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to bring natural gas directly from Russia into Germany and onto other European countries.      Its a move that's been opposed by the United States, which wants to sell liquefied natural gas made in the USA to Europe.

To make the point the US imposed sanctions on any companies helping to build the pipeline with President Trump signing the legislation that passed Congress last December.     This forced a Swiss company laying pipeline to back out of finishing the last links through Danish and German waters.    Its reported that the US plans more sanctions if Russia goes through with completing the pipeline.

The Russian pipe laying vessel intends to reach port east of Denmark in the Russian territory of Kaliningrad that borders Poland......

Northeastern California's Modoc County reopening businesses today breaking with Governor Gavin Newsom's "stay at home" order.       A county Supervisor citing the "mental health" and "economic health" of the small county with a population of less than 10-thousand are behind the move.

"Social distancing" is part of the plan with reduced occupancy for businesses and those over age 65 told to "self-isolate" for the next two weeks.

The county may revert to "stay at home" again if two or more cases of Covid-19 are confirmed in the county among other conditions......NEWSWEEK STORY
