The Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta resigning Friday amidst controversy generated by the indictment and arrest of financier Jeffrey Epstein on child sex trafficking charges.

President Trump was by Acosta's side on the White House lawn for the announcement, saying it was Acosta's decision, not his.

Back in 2008 when Acosta was the Republican US Attorney in Miami his office intervened when the Palm Beach police chief became alarmed that in Democrat controlled Palm Beach County the then District Attorney Barry Krischer was not willing to prosecute the politically powerful Epstein on similar child sex trafficking charges.

Krischer has defended himself saying his office did prosecute on a single state charge in the end saying that Acosta's office prepared to seek a life sentence on federal charges for Epstein, but did not file them.

That plea deal that saw Epstein plead guilty and only serve 13 months in prison on work release.

The Deputy Secretary of Labor Patrick Pizzella will now be Acting Secretary of Labor.

Regarding his relationship in the past with Jeffrey Epstein, the President told reporters that relationship broke off 12 to 15 years ago and he kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago for his behavior towards a young woman there.

He said in part:

"I threw him out of a club.    I didn't want anything to do with him"

Back to the Epstein case itself, federal prosecutors have filed their reasoning as to why Jeffrey Epstein should be denied bail.

They say ahead of Epstein's bail hearing Monday that he paid "co-conspirators" 350-thousand dollars late last year.

It's said that the two people, who are unidentified, could provide testimony against Epstein.

One of them received 100-thousand dollars and the other 250-thousand dollars.

On Thursday the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the indictment and felony conviction of the late Joe Robertson.

The Ninth Circuit move follows an overturning of his conviction by the US Supreme Court in April.

Joe Robertson prosecuted by the federal government for building a pond on his property in Montana.

The Navy veteran who was in his 70's at the time convicted and sent to a federal prison and fined 130-thousand dollars.

He was later put under the care of the Veterans Administration after the intervention of Congressman Ken Buck of Colorado.

Buck visited Robertson in a federal prison in Colorado where he was serving his sentence.

Robertson was out on probation when he died and his estate was liable to pay the federal government's fine.
