YELLOW VESTS LATEST:  ACT 13 PROTESTS ACROSS FRANCE

It was a cold and rainy day in much of France today but protests continued in Paris and nationwide.

The Ministry of the Interior released a national estimate of 51,400 protesters just after 5 pm in the afternoon.   In some local communities no estimates from the police there.   They say figures are "centralized" in Paris.

The government says some 4000 marched in the capital.   The police arrested 36 people, keeping 21 of them in custody.

A protester tried to deflect a police grenade and lost some of his fingers outside the National Assembly.

The Paris procession began near the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Elysses and wound itself to conclusion near the Eiffel Tower late in the afternoon.

6000 Yellow Vests in Toulouse today with one protester telling the media:

"We are not tired"

The AFP news agency estimated some 4000 to 5000 protesters in Bordeaux.  That's because the authorities there will not give estimates of protesters.   It appears more protesters on the street there than last week.

1900 protested in northeastern France at Metz with two injuries to protesters caused by police.  The police claim four injuries with five arrests.

Thousands of protesters being blocked by police from entering the shopping district of Lyon.  17 arrested there with tear gas fired into the protesters.

In Saint-Etienne, France 500 protesters on the streets and police say 11 were arrested there.   They also report eight police slightly injured.

A National Assembly member from the FI Party of the Left in France, Alexis Corbiere, called on Interior Minister Christophe Castaner to resign suggesting that he is allowing people who commit violence into Yellow Vests protests to discredit them.

Similar concerns about the government allowing violent elements to mix in with Yellow Vests were expressed by National Rally leader Marine Le Pen.

A local councilor in the Marne region, Lise Magnier, denied media reports that he home was damaged by Yellow Vests protesters.

Police made an arrest tonight in an arson attack on a van used by soldiers engaged in anti-terrorism security in France.   Today's attack was fully exploited by the government and Interior Minister Christophe Castaner as indicative of who the Yellow Vests protesters are.

For now the weather is cold and damp and sometimes even snowy and icy.   And the protests continue.

What will the spring bring is still a question to consider?
