WEEKLY YELLOW VESTS MARCH IN PARIS APRIL 15, 2023

In the last week it has been painfully clear that Emmanuel Macron wants to move on from his imposition of pension reforms including the rise in retirement age to 64 from 62.

The visit to China allowed Mr. Macron to plant the notion that France should steer clear of the US-China confrontation over Taiwan take a middle ground oppose what he asserted were belligerent positions on both sides.

There are those in France Left and Right who have disdain for the United States.

Perhaps Macron thought he could gain popular support and traction by drawing attention to what appears to be criticism of the US.

Conservative commentators in the US took a few shots but not much debate or distraction from France's malaise the poor economic conditions and the prospect of having to work harder to reach retirement for the average person in France.

Macron's visit to the Netherlands punctuated by a protest banner and hecklers as he spoke in The Hague.

A banner hung during the protest reading:

     "President Of Violence And Hypocrisy"

The recent conflict with Leftist environmental protesters in rural France with objections to police violence also mixed in with the opposition to pension reform in the heckling.

Emmanuel Macron the former banker turned politician trying to be a "Centrist" has clearly alienated his Left with the highly unpopular pension reform and moved people in the Center in the direction of Marine Le Pen and the National Rally.

The government and its mainstream media allies trying to portray the Constitutional Council's Friday decision on the legality of Macron's imposition of pension reform as a final act for the issue stressing the need to move on afterwards.

And again protesters taking to the streets Thursday more strikes to oppose the imposition of the pension reform.

1.5 million protesting according to the unions 380,000 according to the government.

On Friday's the Constitutional Council's decision kept the retirement age increase from 62 to 64 intact.   It said some parts of the pension reform law belonged in social security legislation.

The labor union and opposition political forces vowed that the opposition will continue.

A new day of protest set for May 1st (May Day) a traditional day for labor union marches.

Emmanuel Macron's push for a meeting with the union leaders next Tuesday rebuffed they say no such meeting will take place until after May 1st.

Today protesters gathered in Paris for a regular weekly Yellow Vests demonstration.
