FRANCE YELLOW VESTS WEEK 229: CHARM OFFENSIVE FOR SOME GOVERNMENT OPPONENTS DEMONIZATION OF OTHERS, LE PEN WANTS ELECTIONS OR A REFERENDUM

YELLOW VESTS PROTEST IMPOSITION OF PENSION REFORM IN FRANCE-PARIS APRIL 1, 2023
On Friday French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne meeting local trade union leaders in the town of Nevers.
Next week she will receive national trade union leaders at her official residence in Paris (Hotel Matignon).
The government trying to find some agreement with union leaders that keeps the retirement age raised to 64 as imposed by President Emmanuel Macron's use of his Article 49.3 powers.
The government willing to talk about any and all issues beyond pension reform but union leaders at the national level unified.
Ahead of the latest mass protests and strikes last Tuesday a government narrative that demonstrations were becoming 'radicalized' and 'violent'.
There were fewer arrests and fewer demonstrators on the streets last Tuesday but the two million claimed by union leaders (740,000 by the government) remains a massive number one can't ignore.
In the face of that government narrative LFI ("Left") Party leader Jean-Luc Melenchon tweeted:
"Let us show pacifism in the face of the government's provocations"
On Friday the Prefect of Police in Paris Laurent Nunez filing a complaint that Melenchon insulted the special police unit BRAV-M. A prosecutors office will consider the matter.
Overall there was really less violence last Tuesday at the protests opposing pension reform in France but there was a violent confrontation between anarchist elements at an environmental protest last Saturday in Sainte-Soline southwest of Paris.
400 plus arrests the police claiming more than 400 injuries with two of the protesters knocked unconscious.
That protest a topic of debate all this week complaints filed against police for violence the police making their case to the media as well about the threats and wounds they got from anarchists.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin speaking this weekend of 1093 police and other first responders in France hurt since March 16th clearly trying to create sympathy for them and reduce public support for the protests opposing pension reform.

The leader of the National Rally in the National Assembly Marine Le Pen sees two ways out for Macron with 73 percent of French public opinion wanting pension reform reversed.
She calls for either dissolution of the National Assembly and new elections or a referendum on pensions.
