YELLOW VESTS GATHER TO PROTEST IN PARIS 6/25/2022
"constructive majorities"
The words coming from President Emmanuel Macron Friday following the failure of his "Moderate Centrist" coalition to win a majority in the National Assembly elections.
Macron reaching out saying he wants to find majorities on a case by case basis he even met with National Rally leader Marine Le Pen in search of common ground.
On paper Macron is short of the 289 seat majority (His coalition has 245).
But Macron has groups like "Les Republicans" who at the end of the day are mainstream politicians willing to cut deals to advance the usual agendas like "climate change".
And while 84 of the 131 NUPES coalition on the "Left" who were elected are part of Jean-Luc Melenchon's LFI strongly opposed to Macron's policies the others include Greens and Socialists who may take a mainstream political turn depending on the issue and could help Macron win a majority.
Other independent "Left" and "Right" members could also help Mr. Macron win votes in the National Assembly.
Emmanuel Macron took time out Friday to react to the US Supreme Court decision regarding Roe vs. Wade describing abortion as a "fundamental right for all women" and expressing his "solidarity" with American women.
The opposition National Rally not commenting on the US court decision media in France referring to Marine Le Pen's previous statements on abortion that she does not wish to see change in the law and that she does not want state funding of abortion.
Interestingly enough France came into this year 2022 with a 12-week abortion law allowing for restrictions after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
President Emmanuel Macron had the National Assembly liberalize the law from 12 weeks to 14 weeks ahead of the Presidential Election in April.
The abortion law argued before the US Supreme Court in Mississippi allows abortions up through the first 15 weeks of pregnancy making it slightly more liberal than the current French law touted by President Macron supporting a "woman's right to choose".
To the streets of Paris today and the procession of the Yellow Vests the protest fronted by a yellow banner calling for things like:
"Fiscal and Social Justice"
"Direct Participatory Democracy"
"End to the Privileges of the Elite"
The crowd today appearing to be in the hundreds here is a five minute video you also see a white banner with a "Black Lives Matter" theme...
For those Yellow Vests still on the streets a concern remains about the cost of COVID policies of suspension of health care employees for not getting COVID jabs this street theatre video presents the notion of a health care crisis in France and Emmanuel Macron is held responsible....VIDEO LINK
Joe Biden is now in Europe as the arm twisting of Europe into alignment with the United States continues to move forward.
Meanwhile President Macron wants to a government that takes action by early next month and as mentioned earlier he will probably have support from mainstream business as usual politicians in the ranks of the parties outside of those of Marine Le Pen (National Rally) and Jean-Luc Melenchon (LFI).
They will help Macron move forward through tough times including energy shortages and runaway inflation that Europe will confront in the months ahead.
That's the story of France and the Yellow Vests for this week.
