NEWS SUMMARY-INTELLIGENCE REPORT SUNDAY 10/6/2019--  PARIS POLICE TERROR ATTACK PROBE, TURKEY INVADING NORTHEASTERN SYRIA AFTER TRUMP-ERDOGAN PHONE CALL





French Premier Edouard Philippe announcing the creation of two "missions" to detect "radicalization" in police anti-terrorism operations.


Philippe's announcement follows the terrorist attack Thursday at the Paris police headquarters where four were killed and one wounded by a police IT employee with a long-bladed ceramic knife smuggled into the building.



Attacker Michael Harpon had converted to Islam in 2008 and was known by authorities before Thursday's attack to have justified the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.




"Obviously there were flaws......There was a malfunction.  If there were mistakes, we will correct them...."



The words spoken by France's Interior Minister responsible for the nation's police, Christophe Castaner, on TF  1  television Sunday afternoon. 

   

 Castaner also cited no information in Harpon's personnel file to indicate he was associated with terrorism.    He also said this regarding the perpretator of the terrorist attack:



"He did not hide himself from being but it is not because one is a Muslim that one is a terrorist"




THE TURKISH PRESIDENT SPOKE BY PHONE SUNDAY WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP AND AGREED TO MEET NEXT MONTH IN WASHINGTON.


RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN WANTS A STRONG "SAFE ZONE" IN NORTHEASTERN SYRIA TO PREVENT KURDISH FORCES FROM THREATENING TURKEY'S SECURITY.


THE LATEST WORD FROM THE WHITE HOUSE TONIGHT IS THAT TURKEY WILL INVADE NORTHEASTERN SYRIA AND THAT US TROOPS WILL NOT BE PART OF THE TURKISH OPERATION.     PRESS SECRETARY STEPHANIE GRISHAM SAYS US TROOPS "WILL NO LONGER BE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA"







THE SYRIAN OBSERVATORY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP,  ALIGNED WITH SYRIA'S OPPOSITION, SAYS US WARPLANES ARE CONDUCTING PATROLS ON THE NORTHEASTERN SYRIAN BORDER WITH TURKEY.


THE REPORT COMES AMID CONCERN FROM THE US ABOUT A TURKISH MILITARY OPERATION AGAINST US ALLIED KURDISH UNITS IN NORTHEASTERN SYRIA.     THE TURKS CONSIDER THE KURDISH FIGHTERS TO BE TERRORISTS.     THEY CALL THEMSELVES THE SYRIAN DEMOCRATIC FORCES.


THE SDF GROUP IS REPORTED ON HIGH ALERT AND PROMISES 'ALL OUT WAR' IF THE TURKS ATTACK.   TURKISH PRESIDENT ERDOGAN SAID SATURDAY THAT A GROUND AND  AIR OPERATION IS IMMINENT IN THE REGION.






Eight are reported dead in Baghdad as protests continued against Iraq's government after reforms were announced today.



The government of Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi issuing a decree that includes 17 reforms including land distribution and more welfare payments for poor families.     Benefits will be increased for those who do not have jobs.     Youth unemployment said to be 25 percent in the country.


More than 100 have been killed across the country and many more injured since the protests began Tuesday.


There are reports that snipers have killed protesters during the demonstrations.


The Iraqi government is launching an investigation into the sniper incidents and says that police did not engage in the sniper activity.




The protests against the cutting of fuel subsidies in Ecuador have taken a new turn with indigenous groups in the countryside blocking major highways.


50 police officers are reported to have been taken hostage and there have been clashes involving the use of tear gas.


Protests in urban areas had subsided but a national strike is planned for Wednesday.







PROTESTS ON THE STREETS OF HONG KONG SUNDAY WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS PROTESTING THE NEW FACE MASK BAN FOR DEMONSTRATORS AND THE USE OF LIVE AMMUNITION ON DEMONSTRATORS THAT INJURED TWO PEOPLE IN RECENT DAYS.



POLICE USED TEAR GAS AND WATER CANNON.    THEY CHARGED INTO PROTESTERS BEATING AND ARRESTING THEM.    



GOVERNMENT OFFICES AND A METRO STATION WERE ATTACKED BY PROTESTERS.




Nine shot and four killed at a bar in Kansas City, Kansas early Sunday morning.     Police still trying to figure out if more than one person was involved in the shooting.



Witnesses saying the shooting may been the result of an altercation earlier in the evening.     The four dead men are described as Hispanic.

From the political drama in Washington, word that a second "whistle blower" from within the "intelligence community" is coming forward to contest the phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.     That call discussing corruption allegations surrounding former Vice-President Joe Biden's son Hunter.





IN UKRAINE TODAY THOUSANDS PROTESTED IN THE STREETS OF THE CAPITAL KIEV OPPOSING PRESIDENT ZELENSKY'S PEACE PLAN FOR EASTERN UKRAINE.    ZELENSKY OFFERING AUTONOMY TO THE RUSSIAN POPULATION OF THE EAST IN EXCHANGE FOR AN END TO THE WAR THAT HAS PLAGUED THE COUNTRY SINCE 2014.










Day 3 of the pre-indictment hearing for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel.    Attorney General Avechai Mandelblit giving Netanyahu's lawyers the opportunity to question the evidence against him in three separate corruption cases.



Today "Case 1000" being reviewed and expensive gifts given to the Prime Minister by wealthy businessmen.    His lawyers see the gifts being related to friendship while the Attorney General and  prosecuting attorneys see the gifts as being related to the passage of legislation favorable to the business interests of the gift givers.

Russia has sent a note of protest to the US State Department over an incident involving a member of Russia's parliament visiting the country.


Russian lawmaker Inga Yumasheva was detained and questioned by FBI agents in New York last Thursday when she arrived in the United States for a dialogue in California.


Yumasheva is the coordinator of a parliamentary group in charge of relations with the Congress of the United States.


The Chairman of Russia's parliament (Duma) Vyacheslav Volodin calls her detention a "cynical provocation" as reported by the Tass News Agency.....LINK

The release of a couple with Australian citizenship by Iranian authorities in recent days was apparently part of a prisoner exchange involving the release of an Iranian research student-scientist detained by Australia in connection with US  charges of trying to export American military radar equipment to Iran.


As the couple made their way back to Australia Reza Dehbashi Kevi made his way home to Iran according to Iranian media.   ABC in Australia says that he was released from a Queensland jail and flown back to Tehran accompanied by Iran's ambassador to Australia.



Australia's Attorney General Christian Porter announced this weekend that Dehbashi will not be extradited to the US, but is not giving any details publicly about Dehbashi being allowed to go home.


Porter declined to say whether there was a prisoner swap but for all intents and purposes that appears to be exactly what happened.

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says a deal with the European Union on Brexit is possible if there is a willingness to compromise.


The Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay urging intensified negotiations ahead of a summit of European leaders October 17th and 18th.


The French President Emmanuel Macron said through a spokesman that the talks between the UK and EU should proceed swiftly this week so it can determined at the end if a deal is possible.


Elections Sunday in Tunisia and Portugal.


First,  Tunisia and the contest for 217 seats in that country's parliament.   The Islamist Ennhada Party projected to get 40 seats with the Heart of Tunisia Party getting 35 or so seats.   Heart of Tunisia led by the detained businessman Nabil Karoui.


Preliminary official results not expected in Tunisia until Wednesday with complex negotiations to form a new government after that.


There were six major parties contesting Portugal's election Sunday.       


The Socialists, the Social Democrats, the Left, the Communists, the Christian Democrats and the Animal and Nature Party.


230 seats at stake in the country's parliament and the Socialists won the contest to be the leading party again moving from 86 to 106 seats, still short of a majority.    The Social Democrats at 77 seats, the Left at 19 seats, the Communists at 12, Christian Democrats at 13 seats, the Animal and Nature Party at four seats.


Two new political parties each won a single seat in Portugal's parliament Sunday.     The populist Chega and the liberal pro-business Liberal Initiative.



And that's the way it really is for Sunday October 6th, 2019.
