NEWS SUMMARY-INTELLIGENCE REPORT WEDNESDAY 1/15/2020

The political drama in Washington with the House voting to send the articles of impeachment against President Trump onto the Senate.



Tomorrow they will be delivered to the Senate and will be read there by the House members leading the prosecution of the President, the "managers" of the impeachment.


The Chief Justice John Roberts will end up swearing in the 100 Senators for the trial that will formally get underway next Tuesday.




The nation that the United States borrows the most money from to sustain its national debt of 23 plus trillion dollars in the spotlight today.


The Phase One trade agreement with China signed at the White House today with President Trump and China's Vice-Premier Liu He on hand.

Following a cease-fire period marred by jihadist attacks on government controlled areas, the Syrian and Russian air forces active bombing the jihadist opposition forces in northwestern Syria today.  The center of Idlib city among the locations attacked.   18 reported dead in that attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a pro-opposition group, says at least three were killed in yesterday's Israeli airstrike at the T-4 airbase in eastern Syria near the Jordanian and Iraqi border.


The strike said to be targeting Iranian operations there.




Missiles struck another military base that houses US troops in Iraq.  The missiles striking the Taji camp.  No casualties reported in Tuesday's attack.

The Iraqi Shia Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has called for a million people to protest against the US military presence in Iraq following the US assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and Irqai Popular Mobilization Units deputy commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.


The African nation of Gambia says there will be a ruling next week from the International Court of Justice on its complaint against Myanmar (formerly Burma).      Myanmar accused of genocide involving the Rohingya Muslim minority in the predominately Buddhist country.


Such a ruling would be an emergency ruling from the ICJ.     Myanmar argues that is fighting against terrorism in its country and not committing crimes against the Rohingya.


In Russia today President Vladimir Putin delivering a "State of the Nation" address touching on topics foreign and domestic.   On foreign affairs Putin calling  for the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to work together.    Putin speaking of the need for "the preservation and sustainable development of mankind" and expressing concern about a global war being the alternative to that.

In domestic affairs President Putin proposing constitutional changes and in the aftermath of his speech the resignation of Russia's Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev and his cabinet.   Putin asking the cabinet ministers to stay in their posts for the moment with Medvedev moving onto a new post on the National Security Council.



Later today Putin proposed Mikhail Mishustin as the new Prime Minister.   Mishustin is head of Russia's Federal Tax Service.

Putin also proposing extending financial support for poor families with small children from age 3 to age 7.    Those payments currently end when children in poor families turn 3 years old.
