She also delved into the current controversy over President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform plan expected to cut pensions for millions of French workers.   Le Pen advocates a national referendum and says Macron's compromise over a new retirement age is a ploy to distract from the core of the plan he wants to get through.

Le Pen told the candidates for this year's municipal voting that the National Rally is seeking national power in the presidential election year in 2022.

The power of Marine Le Pen in national politics appears to be strong with polling done last fall showing she would win the first round of presidential elections in 2022 and finish with 45 percent of the vote against incumbent President Emmanuel Macron.
