The legendary American situation comedy writer-producer Norman Lear is dead at age of 101.   


Lear said to have died from natural causes.



He made a name for himself going into the 1970's with a string of hit TV shows led by "All in the Family" whose central character was a bigot using language considered inappropriate today.



Lear became a political activist in the 1980's helping to create "People for the American Way" to oppose the "Religious Right".
