YELLOW VESTS PROTEST IN PARIS SATURDAY 12/16/2023
The delicate balance of President Emmanuel Macron's "Centrist" government maintaining power without a majority in the National Assembly was upset Monday.
The vote 270-265 against the government with 13 abstentions.
The modified legislation on immigration from the Senate shot down on a motion brought by France's Left upset over the strictness of the proposed law.
Forces of the Right joined the Left obviously wanting a stricter approach to immigration and even five members of Mr. Macron's centrist group joined the "No" column.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne opting to punt following the defeat throwing the rejected legislation into a conference committee of lawmakers from the National Assembly and Senate.
That group could modify the bill or send the original one back for legislative votes.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne using the week prior to Christmas ahead to bring the legislation back for a second vote.
The government still has its Article 49.3 power allowing a French President to bypass the legislators and force passage.
We may yet see such a move.
On Friday Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin warned that if the legislation cannot be passed next week it would mean a win for the National Rally.
The government trying to convince even some of its own members in the Assembly to support immigration legislation that they consider too strict.

TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL NEAR PARIS ENDED UP WALKING OUT SENSING A THREAT TO ORDER AND THEIR PERSONAL SAFETY.
PARENTS AT THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TEACHERS AND CURRICULUM PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT.
EDUCATION MINISTER GABRIEL ATTAL BACKING UP THE SCHOOL PROMISING PUNISHMENT OF STUDENTS COMPLAINING AND ALSO SENDING A GROUP TO MAKE SURE THE SCHOOL STAYED TRUE TO THE 'VALUES OF THE REPUBLIC'.
