FRANCE YELLOW VESTS WEEK 240: CHANGE THE SUBJECT TO IMMIGRATION

(MAINSTREAM MEDIA SOURCES USED IN CONNENCTION WITH THIS POST)

YELLOW VESTS PROTEST IN PARIS SATURDAY JUNE 17, 2023

On Monday the latest motion of censure against the government of President Emmanuel Macron failed in the National Assembly.

239 of the 577 members supporting it members from the Left and the National Rally along with the deputies from France's overseas territories.

The government-aligned parties do not have a majority in the Assembly either but with the support of the Mainstream "Right" Les Republicains they found a majority to turn back the censure motion.

LR leader Eric Ciotti has been making noise on immigration and was given an audience this week with President Macron to discuss the matter.

The knife attack incident a week ago Thursday (June 8th) involving a Syrian man seeking asylum in France has put impetus behind the immigration issue giving Macron a chance to turn public attention away from his imposition of a higher retirement age.

More fuel poured on the fire Thursday by the Mainstream Right Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi.     Estrosi supports President Macron.

Estrosi aroused by the report of a school inspector on Muslim prayers in three schools in the city.

He raised the issue in a letter to Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne calling for strong action to defend "secularism" in the schools.

LR leader Eric Ciotti also echoing Mayor Estrosi's narrative calling for urgent intervention by the government.

This incident from France's political scene reminds one of the kind of issues that Mainstream Republicans use in the United States to arouse grassroots voter sentiment the "emotional wedge" issues made famous by Karl Rove on behalf of the Moderates in the GOP.

One gets the sense this is a move aimed at taking popular support away from the National Rally or the Reconquete movement of  Eric Zemmour and Marion Marechal.

By supporting Mr. Macron on pensions the LR has already aligned itself with keeping him in power for now.
