In committee last week a key provision of legislation proposed by the National Assembly lawmakers from France's overseas territories taken out.

That was the part restoring France's retirement age to 62.

When the full assembly takes on the legislation next week there will be an effort to put it back in.

Some 61 percent of those surveyed wanted the legislation approved to repeal the pension reform law and restore the retirement age to 62.

This week President Emmanuel Macron forced to clarify the comments of his Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.

Interviewed by Jewish radio station "Radio J" Bourne had said that the National Rally was the "heir to Petain" as in the Vichy French leader Marshal Philippe Petain.

Macron saying that such a statement was more appropriate for the 1990's when the National Rally was known as the National Front.

Next Tuesday (June 6th) will be a nationwide day of strikes and protest in France against President Macron's imposition of pension reform.
