VIDEO REPORT ON MAY DAY (MAY 1ST) PROTEST IN PARIS AGAINST EMMANUEL MACRON'S GOVERNMENT
May Day is a traditional day of Leftist and Labor Union protests in France.
But this year the demonstrations amplified by opposition to President Emmanuel Macron's imposition of pension reform without legislative approval.
2.3 million people protesting nationwide according to the CGT labor union federation while the Ministry of the Interior says the number was less than a million.
The government and mainstream media didn't make much of the peaceful nature of the huge crowds but chose to seize upon the January 6th style incidents of vandalism involving the usual suspects black uniformed anarchists.
Arrests and injuries to police highlighted in the coverage.
The drumbeat about those incidents from the government and media led to word later in the week saying the government was considering legislation to criminalize the construction of barricades during protests.
Barricades are a tradition in French protest and the move may have an ulterior motive to arouse or incite the Leftist opponents of the Macron government.
Blame for the "violence" hurled by the government at "Left" political leader Jean-Luc Melenchon.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin took a swipe at the "far-right" government in Italy Thursday telling RMC (Radio Monte Carlo) that the government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was:
"far right...incapable of resolving migration problems"
This quickly led to cancellation of a visit to France by Italy's Foreign Minister Antoni Tajani who said:
"Offenses to the government and Italy by the minister Darmanin are unacceptable"
Perhaps it was a way for Darmanin to take an indirect swipe at the "far right" National Rally in France.
National Rally leader in the National Assenbly Marine Le Pen chose May Day for a speech to a rally in Le Havre where she said Macron was running down France.
MARINE LE PEN SAYS THAT PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON TALKED OF PUTTING FRANCE 'ON THE MOVE' BUT HE INSTEAD 'BROKE IT DOWN'-MAY 1, 2023 SPEECH IN LE HAVRE
Le Pen also going after "woke ideology" as she spoke at the May Day rally.
Le Pen's National Rally now leads legislative polling and she is the leading candidate if a Presidential election was held today according to the polls.
