FRANCE YELLOW VESTS WEEK 206: OIL REFINERY STRIKE EASES, UNIONS PLAN MORE STRIKE DAYS, TODAY'S PROTESTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

YELLOW VESTS GATHER TO MARCH IN PARIS SATURDAY 10/22/2022

Labor union forces and the Left came together last Tuesday to give support to workers in general under the pressure of inflation.

The action supported oil refinery strikes that were in the process of being broken by government orders to return to work but they laid a foundation for future protest.

This Thursday October 27th and Thursday November 10th two weeks later now designated as inter-professional strike days to demand higher wages in France in the face of inflation.

In the National Assembly this week the government flexed the strong executive power of the French Presidency under the 1958 "Fifth Republic" Constitution.

President Emmanuel Macron using Article 49.3 to impose a general budget and a social security budget in France.    This because a majority in the legislature is controlled by opposition parties opposed to the budgets.

The Left and the National Rally pushed conflicting censure motions on the government that failed to gain any momentum.

President Macron has already threatened to flex his strong presidential power and dissolve the National Assembly should any censure motion pass.    That would trigger new legislative elections.

The moment of truth for such a situation to unfold has not arrived.

Lurking in the shadows for legislative action in the weeks and months ahead the proposal to 'reform' pensions in France that would raise the retirement age.

The volatility of this issue carries with it the likelihood of Macron forcing the "reform" through using his executive power.

That would trigger a unified opposition censure motion from legislators.

Then Macron would retaliate dissolving the National Assembly for new elections.

But Macron will try to find some members of the opposition in the mainstream "Les Republicains" of the "Right" to perhaps give him a slim legislative majority on the contentious "pension reform" issue.

What I see in the video flags in this protest including the French flag singing in the crowd and some banners as well.

Hundreds protesting a far cry from the high water mark of the Yellow Vests movement that began almost four years ago.

This Yellow Vests gathering in Tours, France west of Paris today with a banner proclaiming "Social, Fiscal, Climate Justice"...

Also in Tours today this protest with a stay out of the War in Ukraine message on a white banner.   The protest described as a gathering of Yellow Vests and Citizens...

In the present economic atmosphere it should come as no surprise that there is some increase in the number of protests.   In Lille in northern France today French flags, Yellow flags and protest signs as hundreds gathered.

The banner leading the protest in Lille included "RIC" highlighted on its right side.    The "RIC" in reference to the "Citizen Initiative Referendum" to give people the right to initiate referendums on issues.     It was an early demand of the Yellow Vests protests...
