Top coronavirus officials in the UK told a media briefing today that the COVID-19 situation is worsening in the country with the suggestion that the country will have 49,000 new cases a day by October 13th. Following the briefing of Sir Patrick Vallance, Chief Scientific Adviser, and Professor Chris Witty, Chief Medical Officer, journalist Peter Hitchens said that perhaps one reason for the dramatic statements today was to justify continuation of the state of emergency in the country and to scare members of Parliament into approving it. He said in part:
"....On September 30th a mere nine days away Parliament has to vote on renewal of the extremely potent measures of the coronavirus bill and it seems to me that this whole ramping up of figures is to the appearance of a new second wave......"
