A Saudi court overturning five death sentences in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi today and handing out sentences to eight unnamed individuals in the case. Journalist Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government, murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October of 2018.
Reaction to the court's action included that of UN official Agnes Callamard who called it part of a "parody of justice". Turkish presidential spokesman Fahrettin Altun said tonight that the court's verdicts "fell short of meeting the expectations of Turkey and the international community".
