US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Iran sparing over the incident involving a woman working for the International Atomic Energy Agency who set off an alarm when entering an Iranians nuclear facility.


Pompeo says Iran was involved in "intimidation".


But an Iranian representative to the IAEA says that when she set off the alarm on a detection system, she went to the bathroom before another detection system could be used.    No alarm set off when that system was used, but contamination was found in the bathroom and on her empty handbag.


Details of the contamination not revealed by Iran officially but anonymous sources putting out the word that she is suspected of trying to bring explosives into the nuclear facility.

Iran says it shot down a drone from a foreign country near a southern port city.     The drone brought down in the area of Mahshahr with the Iranians saying wreckage has been recovered.


Iran has released video footage of an air defense missile being launched to shoot down the drone.

A US-led naval coalition officially launching its mission of protecting shipping in the Persian Gulf  today.   Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates participating in an operation designed to counter a perceived Iranian threat after tanker attacks and seizures earlier this year.


Vice Admiral Jim Malloy of the US Navy said during an opening ceremony in Bahrain today that "Operation Sentinel" has a design that is:



"threat-based but does not threaten"



In the country neighboring Iran, Iraq, the anti-government protests continued Friday into the evening as the government uses tear gas and bullets, rubber to be sure, with some allegations they are using live ammunition.


Baghdad the center of conflict with the demonstrators trying to enter the "Green Zone" where government offices are location.


Also from Iraq a rocket attack launched on a base where US troops are stationed in Iraq and Iraqi officials calling it a "terrorist attack"



The Russian military beginning helicopter patrols along the Syrian-Turkish border to support its military police patrols there.    


Daily patrols being conducted at an altitude of 50-60 meters (160-200 feet) along multiple patrol routes according to Russia's Interfax News Agency.

The former left-wing president of Brazil Lula da Silva freed from prison today.   Yesterday the country's Supreme Court ruled that convicted criminals can remain free until all appeals are exhausted.

Then afterwards violent acts with the torching of a university building and the ransacking of a church where hooded protesters took furniture out of the church's rectory and set it on fire.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg filing to be on the ballot in next year's Democratic presidential primary in Alabama.


No official announcement of a  presidential candidacy yet but a spokesman for Mr. Bloomberg says that could come as early as next week.




The political drama in Washington and a lawyer for the "whistle blower" who ignited the "impeachment inquiry" of House Democrats writing a "cease and desist" letter to the White House.


Lawyer Andrew Bakaj's letter to White House counsel Pat Cipillone demanding that President Trump stop criticizing the man who is the "whistle blower" revealed by supporters of the President to be a CIA employee connected to Democrats politically.


Bakaj claiming the President's criticism places his client and family in danger.



"I am the only person I know, perhaps the only person in history, who can give major money to a charity (19 M), charge no expense, and be attacked by the political hacks in New York State"


President Trump's reaction to a New York state judge's fine of him requiring the President to give two million dollars to charities.


The fine imposed by Judge Saliann Scarpulla in response to a lawsuit from the Democrat New York Attorney General's office.   The President admitting as part of the settlement that he misused his charitable foundation.


An anonymous author claiming to be a "senior official" at the White House claiming that President Trump is "volatile" and "incompetent" among other things.   The unknown author's book is to published with the title "A Warning".


White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham issued a statement late Thursday saying in part:



"The coward who wrote this book didn't put their name on it because it is nothing but lies"

Former White House aide and campaign manager for President Trump in 2016 Steve Bannon on the stand Friday at the trial of Roger Stone.


Stone, a longtime GOP political operative who worked for Mr. Trump in the past, is on trial accused of witness tampering, obstruction of justice and lying to a Democrat controlled House committee.


Bannon testifying that Stone was perceived as an "access point" to Wikileaks and Julian Assange who knew about Hillary Clinton emails set for release.


Bannon said he was not aware of any effort by the Trump campaign to use Stone to contact Julian Assange or Wikileaks.

In past British election campaigns the Scottish National Party has been an aid to the Conservative Party.     The Tories going so far as to push opposition to Scottish nationalism to inflame Scots to vote for the SNP taking seats away from the Labor Party.


But for this election campaign SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon announced Friday that an offer of a "progressive alliance" with Labor in the event of a deadlocked parliament is on the table.


The catch would be that Labor would have to agree to a second referendum on Scottish independence.    An independence referendum in 2014 failed.

A senior US official says a "Phase One" trade agreement with China is still being worked on with the possibility that an agreement might not be reached.


Also up in the air right now is the meeting between President Trump and China's President Xi Jinping to sign the agreement.   It was originally set for the APEC summit in Santiago, Chile which was cancelled due to unrest in that country.



BREAKING NEWS:  IN HONG KONG SATURDAY A CRACKDOWN WITH THE ARRESTS OF PRO-DEMOCRACY MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE.  SEVEN EITHER DETAINED OR WANTED BY THE POLICE.


This comes after events being held on the streets of Hong Kong in remembrance of 22 year old Alex Chow who died of his injuries sustained during a protest last weekend.      Chow fell off the ledge of a parking garage while trying to get away from tear gas  fired by police.



Film director Roman Polanski accused by a former French model and actress of rape in the 1970's when she was a teenager.


The Polish born Polanski fled the United States in 1978 when he admitted to the statutory rape of a 13 year old girl.


Polanski's lawyer says he "firmly denies all accusations of rape".
