"We don't know the thoughts of the shooter"


Those the words of Dayton, Ohio Mayor Nan Whaley at a news conference following a mass murder attack in the center of the city.

The attacker opened fire shortly after 1 am Sunday morning (1 am Eastern US time) outside a bar in the center of the city.

Nine reported dead  with 27 "treated for injuries" with some of them wounded by the gunfire.


Police killed the attacker shortly after he opened fire.

He is identified as  24 year old Connor Betts.   The attacker said to have been wearing body armor.  His sister, Megan Betts is among those killed.


Betts has expressed views hostile to President Trump and described himself as a:



"leftist"

The attack in Dayton within hours of the El Paso mass murder attack where 20 are reported dead and 26 wounded.   The attacker, Patrick Crusius, has expressed views hostile to mass immigration, major corporations and in defense of environmental protection.    His manifesto expressing those views posted online before Saturday's attack.

The White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said on the ABC "This Week" program Sunday morning that:


"crazy people........should not be able to get guns" 



President Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump tweeting:


"White supremacy, like all other forms of terrorism, is an evil that must be destroyed"




Iran says it seized an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf last Wednesday.


The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announcement Sunday said the "foreign" tanker was involved in smuggling fuel to Arab countries.


Iran also released a video said to be showing the seizure of the tanker.

In Hong Kong Sunday a day long protest outside a police building with protesters surrounding it until late in the evening when police reinforcements arrived and those inside it stormed out into the streets.


This video from "Ruptly" shows the protest outside the police station.    It lasts four hours.....LINK


A mass strike called for the territory on Monday and hundreds of airline flights were cancelled and mass transportation disrupted.


The territory's ruler appointed by the government in Beijing,  Carrie Lam, posted a video Monday saying the protesters have an ulterior motive:


"to destroy Hong Kong"




The Yellow Vests protest movement continued to manifest itself on the streets and highways of France in spite of the summer slowdown.   For the 38th Week in a row the protests continued fueled by the death of Steve Maia Canico.

His body pulled from the Loire River in Nantes Monday.   Canico disappeared when police used tear gas, flash bang rounds and stun grenades to break up a music festival that had continued well into the morning of June 22nd.

There was a peaceful memorializing of Steve Maia Canico near a yellow crane in Nantes while in another part of the city anarchist elements clashed with police.   42 reported arrested.

The "Yellow Number" Facebook page reported a minimum of 18.thousand participating in protests across France on Saturday.

Thousands marching in central London in support of imprisoned activist Tommy Robinson Saturday with left-wing anti-fascist protesters confronting them at times.


The mass protest in support of Robinson moved from Oxford Circus north to the BBC building on Portland Place.


Spokesman Danny Tommo posted on Sunday that Robinson appreciates all those who came out to support him.....LINK

From India the government moving to revoke the article of its constitution that allows the Muslim majority territory of Kashmir to have autonomy.


Pakistan condemned the move and said it would counter it with "all possible options".


India recently changed its divorce laws to outlaw the Muslim practice of allowing a man quick divorce under Islamic law through speaking three times.


A shakeup at banking giant HSBC with CEO John Flint stepping down.

Noel Quinn replacing Flint.

HSBC Chairman Mark Tucker saying that the change in leadership was needed to meet challenges of the "increasingly complex and challenging global environment" in which the company operates.

For the six months ending June 30th HSBC has reported a 15,8 percent increase in profits.
