The former President of Peru Pedro Castillo spoke in court today.
Leftist Castillo was arrested immediately after last Wednesday's impeachment vote by Peru's Congress.
The court decided to keep Castillo in custody.
His supporters continue to protest across the country with tourist areas impacted by airport and highway blockades.
Police announced that pellets will be used against protesters.
Tonight the Minister of Defense saying that the national highway network and two portions of the country will be declared in a State of Emergency to allow the use of the military against the protests and blockades.
