President Trump proposing actions to preserve free speech in the US and go after collusion between the federal government and tech companies to censor speech online.
In the short-term Trump asking Republicans in the US House to get involved parties to preserve their records that might show such collusion.
Trump said that:
"a sinister group of Deep State bureaucrats, Silcon Valley tyrants, Left-Wing activists and Depraved Corporate news media have been conspiring to manipulate and silence the American people "
Trump said that if he returns to the White House he will issue an Executive Order about Freedom Of Speech Online and seek new legislation from Congress.
Other highlights from the Trump speech today:
"The Censorship Cartel must be dismantled and destroyed and it must happen immediately"
"Within hours of my inauguration I will sign an Executive Order banning any federal department or agency from colluding with any organization business or person to censor, limit, categorize or impede the lawful speech of American citizens."
"I will then ban federal money from being used to label domestic speech as mis or disinformation"
"I will begin the process of identifying and firing any federal bureaucrat who has engaged in domestic censorship, directly or indirectly, whether they are in the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Health and Human Services , the FBI, the DOJ, no matter who they are"
"I will order the Department of Justice to investigate all parties involved in the new online censorship regime...and to aggressively prosecute any and all crimes identified."
"I am urging House Republicans to immediately send preservation letters...to the Biden Administration, the Biden Campaign and every Silicon Valley tech giant"
"Upon my inauguration as President I will ask Congress to send a bill to my desk revising Section 230 to get big online platforms out of censorship"
"We need to break up the entire toxic censorship industry that has arisen under the false guise of tackling so-called mis and disinformation"
"The federal government should stop funding all non-profits and academic programs that support this authoritarian project"
Mr. Trump emphasized domestic free speech in his message today but also pushed the notion of going after "child exploitation" and "terrorism" online an indication he wants to crackdown on international online speech linked to both of those notions.
Trump also proposing the notion of a seven-year waiting period before FBI, CIA, NSA and other intelligence or security organizations can take a job in a tech firm.
He also pushed the notion of a 'Digital Bill of Rights" that would force government officials to get orders to remove online content.
Mr. Trump also proposing that users of social media be notified if they are taken down or restricted in any way including "shadow banning". Tech companies would be required to give a reason and offer a speedy appeal of any restrictive actions.
He also said that those over the age of 18 should have the ability to opt out of content moderation and receive unmanipulated information.
President Trump's statement today followed an announcement earlier in the day regarding a digital trading card collection something he teased yesterday as a "major announcement".
Critics of President Trump in various quarters including the Mainstream Media and even Joe Biden took the bait and responded to the trading card announcement.
As they leveled their attacks, derision and ridicule at President Trump, Trump unleashed his broadside in support of Freedom of Speech Online.
