Two weeks from tomorrow the first round of France's presidential election and the economic issues seem to be getting more concern from voters rather than matters like national identity and immigration.

The inflation fueled by massive government spending over COVID and economic sanctions against Russia translating into more support for National Rally candidate Marine Le Pen and the Left candidate Jean-Muc Melenchon.

Melenchon with a very definite left-wing approach to economics while Marine Le Pen is talking givebacks to French consumers including a 20 percent cut in Value Added Tax for energy bills.

Le Pen now around 20 percent in popularity and Melenchon around 14 percent in opinion polling.  Incumbent Emmanuel Macron under 30 percent in his vote.    If this trend continues it will be Macron verus Le Pen in the final round of voting April 24th

Five years ago Marine Le Pen lost to Macron 66-34 percent with her more nationalist and immigration oriented campaign.

Now she talks economics and the cost of living and second round polling data puts her as high as 46 percent in the second round vote to Macron's 54 percent.

At a town-hall style meeting hosted by BFM-TV this week Marine Le Pen said she would give 15,000 unvaccinated healthcare workers their jobs back along with their back pay.

Those workers suspended last fall for not getting COVID shots.

The Yellow Vests marched in Paris today.   This 11 minute video shows a static protest in the street with singing the prelude to the march through the streets.    Then near the end the procession begins...LINK

A traditional Yellow Vests protest at a traffic circle in Lille in northern France.     One sign at this protest read:

          "Le Covid Est Une Escroquerie"

                                    translated that is:

                       "Covid Is A Scam"-

In the center of Lille a protest on the streets...

Villeneuve-sur-Lot is in southwestern France 60 miles from Bordeaux and it was the site of another traffic circle protest by Yellow Vests.

To the south of France in Toulon where Yellow Vests and the group representing caregivers among whom many have been suspended from jobs because of a COVID vaccine mandate protested.
