ISRAEL BREAKING: IDF REINFORCES GAZA BORDER, MASSIVE ROCKET BARRAGE FOLLOWS 'BOTCHED' OPERATION IN GAZA
It seemed like things were going to quiet down in Gaza last week with the delivery of 15 million dollars in cash from Qatar in multiple suitcases.
The "payoff" money was designed to pacify Gaza and help calm things down between Israel and the militant group Hamas which has maintained steady pressure on Israel with everything from occasional rocket barrages to constant incendiary kites to mass protests at the border fences forcing Israeli snipers to open fire.
But suddenly on Sunday night, all hell broke loose. IDF soldiers were operating inside Gaza using civilian vehicles backed by air support, tanks and artillery. When the shooting started a senior Hamas commander and six other Palestinians were dead. While it was assumed that this was some sort of assassination attempt on the Hamas commander, Israel has called it a military operation that was 'botched'.
One Israeli officer died and another was wounded in the operation.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rushed back from Paris where he was part of the commemoration of the World War I armistice and Hamas began a massive retaliation that included some 400 rockets fired into Israel by this morning (Tuesday).
Around 100 of the rockets were intercepted by the "Iron Dome" missile defense but there was at least one civilian fatality and 70 injuries reported as of this morning. An anti-tank missile hit a bus critically injuring an Israeli soldier.
Over 100 Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets were hit by Israel inside Gaza including ammunition depots, weapons factories and even the Hamas television station.
The IDF has reinforced its ground forces including tanks in the border area.
Hamas is threatening even more attacks deeper into Israel than areas near the border.
