"From the perspective of Israel's friends in the United States, it looks like the current judicial reform proposal is becoming more divisive, not less.
Given the range of threats and challenges confronting Israel right now, it doesn't make sense for Israeli leaders to rush this--the focus should be on pulling people together and finding consensus"
JOE BIDEN STATEMENT TO 'AXIOS' NEWS SITE SUNDAY JULY 23, 2023-FREE REPUBLIC POST-TIMES OF ISRAEL STORY DISCUSSION
"A leading business forum representing 150 of Israel's largest companies announced a strike for Monday, which would see some banks, shopping centers and gas stations closed, and some businesses working in a reduced framework, amid a bitter, divisive national standoff over the Netanyahu government's planned drastic overhaul of the judiciary.
The coalition is gearing up for an upcoming final Knesset vote on the 'reasonableness' bill, which--if passed as is on Monday or Tuesday--would remove courts' ability to use doctrine to review politicians' decisions."

There have been many developments in Israel in recent hours more mass protests on the highways with a large crowd rallying outside Israel's parliament building in Jerusalem.
I haven't seen rallies like that at the US Capitol since well...
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government the parliamentary majority of 32 Likud, 14 Nationalists (Religious Zionism) and 18 Orthodox Religious (Shas and United Torah Judaism) members seeking to pass legislation to rein in Israel's judiciary and enable elected governments to have more say over judicial appointments and public policy in general.
The massive opposition sometimes in the hundreds of thousands many waving Israeli flags others the rainbow flag blocking highways, demonstrating outside parliament members homes etc. etc. disrupting Parliament itself at times.
Now one piece of legislation called the "Reasonableness Bill" is on the verge of final approval.
But a gauntlet has been thrown down from the US government of Joe Biden and leading business entities in Israel seeking to shut down passage of the legislation in favor of negotiations with Leftist opponents to achieve what is being called "consensus" over the issue.
As for Prime Minister Netanyahu, he went into hospital late Saturday night for pacemaker surgery. He should be on hand though for today's final vote. His heart issue a known factor for some time with the timing of his hospitalization and surgery very interesting.
