YELLOW VESTS MARCH IN PARIS SATURDAY 7/29/2023
On Thursday Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin met with the leaders of police unions amid the tensions over the four police officers charged with attacking a protester in Marseille.
For much of the week many officers in Marseille on a sick out creating a difficult policing situation in Marseille.
President Emmanuel Macron has stated his belief that 'no one is above the law' in the matter.
Mr. Darmanin trying to reassure the police of support from the government.
As for President Macron his attention on the Pacific with visits to the French territory of New Caledonia and the South Pacific nations of Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
Macron taking jabs at China during the journey underscoring the confrontation the "rules-based international order" is engaging in with China.
The French president trying to tamp down an independence movement among the native Kanak people of New Caledonia warning that independence might lead to a Chinese naval bases there some 752 miles east of the Australian coast....ABC News Australia: "Emmanuel Macron warns of "Chinese naval bases" in New Calendonia..."
In Vanuatu Macron hit China for the "predatory aid" it provides to nations. Much Chinese aid money has been dispensed in South Pacific nations in recent years most notably the Solomon Islands but also in other countries....France 24: "Macron denounces 'new imperialism' in the Pacific during landmark visit"
As Mr. Macron tried to battle China in the South Pacific there was a coup in the former French African colony of Niger.
France maintains a major military base there but in recent years increasing Russian influence over nearby former French colonial states like Mali and Burkina Faso. That influence punctuated by the presence of Wagner Private Military Contractor forces helping the local governments fight jihadists.
The new military governments in those countries accuse France and Western nations of helping to support the jihadists.
Speaking from Papua New Guinea on Friday Macron denouncing the coup in Niger as "completely unacceptable" and "dangerous...for the region". He called on the military to release the captured President Mohamed Bazoum and restore "constitutional order".
There have been demonstrations on the streets of Niger's capital city of Niamey warning France against any military intervention in the country.
Today in Paris a demonstration against inflation on the streets by Yellow Vests...

In today's march the French flag at the front of the procession along with drums. The march interrupted by a cloud burst at one point. Demonstrators took cover. Then umbrellas opened up. The march continued.
