Then on Sunday evening an onslaught of media attention on one poster at one protest in eastern France (Metz).
The sign invoked the notion of "traitors" and mentioned people like George Soros and Anges Buzyn the former health minister of France.
They are both Jewish and this was seized upon by media and government to smear health freedom protests in France as "Anti-Semitic".
The Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin quick to seize upon the sign with a vigorous denunciation.
Then the local prosecutor and police moved against the woman who held the sign to charge her with a trial planned next month.
Late Friday into Saturday the vaccine passport system in France broke down when pharmacies that issue QR codes were unable to do so for those who need tests.
