Protesters are attempting to enter the central districts of Melbourne and Sydney and launching protests in other Australian cities at Noon Saturday August 21st. (10 pm Eastern US Time Friday)

Saturday morning Premier Daniel Andrews of the Labor Party in Victoria state announced a snap lockdown for regions outside of Melbourne effective 1 pm local time today (11 pm Eastern US time). This is a return to lockdown for those areas.
Reports from Sydney say that police have already made arrests there....

To summarize protests materialized in Sydney with hundreds making it into the Victoria Park and downtown areas around roadblocks set up to prevent movement.
They were swarmed by a large police presence and numerous arrests were made.
A large crowd in Melbourne with police moving against the protesters eventually.
Melbourne and Sydney protests held in defiance of lockdown restrictions.
A gathering of hundreds protested in Brisbane at the Botanical Gardens.
There is no lockdown now in Brisbane so police did not act against this protest.
The Victoria Police Commissioner Shane Patton warned ahead of time that all those arrested today in Melbourne would be fined 5500 dollars (3921.42 US dollars) (ABC News Australia)
Telegram messages out urging protesters to disperse from protest organizers is what we saw at the appointed hour for protests to end at 12 Midnight here in the USA Friday, 2 PM Saturday in Eastern Australia.
How many police provocateurs were involved in the incidents in Melbourne is not clear right now but the sense of some was that police used their own kind of force against protesters like the bug spray cans of pepper spray.
In Sydney there was a crackdown, roadblocks and more to pre-empt a protest from getting started unlike Melbourne where it was allowed to materialize and then the confrontations.
Maybe staged confrontations.
