The strike spearheaded by railway workers that began on December 5th is continuing aimed at President Emmanuel Macron's scheme to merge 42 pension plans into one and raise the retirement age.

Opinion polling shows 57 percent of public opposed to his plan and Macron is working to deal that.

For instance, both the police and military have been reassured that their pensions will not be disturbed by "pension reform".

The government meeting with various union and business groups regularly and putting out trial balloons on tweaking of the plan hoping to split off union factions from participation in the strike which has heavily affected rail traffic.

Special trains are planned in the coming days before Christmas but still well over half of regular rail service in France will not be running.

There have been two major days of mass demonstrations nationwide since the strike began with the government saying more than 600-thousand protested while the unions say 1.2 million participated in the first day and 1.8 million in the second day of protest last Tuesday (December 17th).

Yellow Vests protesters gathered early this afternoon at the Place de la Bastille in Paris.

The Yellow Vests protests that began over a year ago are very much a protest of the highways in France at traffic circles and at toll booths along highways operated by private companies given control of the roads by the government.

President Emmanuel Macron traveling in Africa launched his gambit to influence public opinion Saturday renouncing any pension he is due for serving as President of the Republic.

The new pension "czar" Laurent Pietrazewski reassuring those with "special" pension benefits like the police they will not lose them and noting that the government has convinced some union leaders to call for a truce in the protest.

Pietrazewski will roll out plans for dialogue with various groups this Monday December 23rd.

And for now that is the story of the Yellow Vests in France today.   No firm numbers from "Yellow Number" Facebook but evidence of dedicated thousands out on the streets and the highways on the Saturday before Christmas.
