The political pressure cooker for the "New Popular Front" of the Left to come up with a candidate for Prime Minister led to the nomination of senior civil servant-economist Lucie Castets for the job on Tuesday.
Almost immediately afterwards President Emmanuel Macron said this was not the time for a new government to take office that would have to wait until the Summer Olympics in Paris end in the middle of August.
Macron said such a government would need to have the 'broadest backing possible'.
He said the current caretaker government led by his faction's Gabriel Attal should remain in power to avoid "disorder".
Castets said that priorities for the new government would be to repeal Mr. Macron's pension reform and tax reform that would lead to everyone paying 'their fair share'...
