On Tuesday President Emmanuel Macron accepting the resignation of his Prime Minister Gabriel Attal but asking Attal to stay on in a caretaker role.
On the Left the ranks of the "New Popular Front" frayed and divided with debate and discussion about unity in general and the need to unify around a particular candidate for Prime Minister.
On Thursday the forces of President Macron won the vote to select a President of the National Assembly with Yael Braun-Pivet re-elected to that position.
She narrowly defeated the candidate of the Left's New Popular Front Andre Chassaigne 220 to 207 votes.
The National Rally's Sebastien Chenu with 141 votes.
On Friday leading Leftist politician Jean-Luc Melenchon said the Socialist Party is standing in the way of him being nominated as the next Prime Minister of France by the New Popular Front.
Melenchon is outspoken in support of the Palestinian cause apparently making him unacceptable as a French Prime Minister in the aftermath of the October 7th attacks on Israel.
THIS WEEK PRESIDENT MACRON TALKED THE ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR WITH LEADERS OF THREE ARAB NATIONS BAHRAIN, EGYPT AND QATAR.
A STATEMENT AFTERWARDS INCLUDED THESE PASSAGES:
