YELLOW VESTS PROTEST IN PARIS SATURDAY JULY 13, 2024
"although the far right came out on top in the first round with nearly 11 million votes, you clearly refused to allow it to enter the Government, In the end no one won..."
That's part of the letter President Emmanuel Macron released Wednesday evening his first formal response to the National Assembly elections.
Meanwhile on the Left the "New Popular Front" demanded the right to form a government by virtue of controlling 180 of the 577 seats.
On the Right Marine Le Pen warned about the most far-left of the NFP parties La France Insoumise and the EELV (Ecologists) holding any cabinet posts.
President Macron kept his ENSEMBLE movement technically in power for the moment not accepting the resignation of Prime Minister Gabriel Attal.
The ENSEMBLE movement now controlling only 159 seats instead of the 245 it held before the election.
Much gaslighting by right-leaning media around the world over the Left's showing in the election but in the end there appears to be a Pro-Capitalist majority in the National Assembly.
This can be seen when one adds the "Centrist" ENSEMBLE members to the RN (so called "Far Right") and the 39 members from Les Republicains.
That group of assembly members adds up to 338 of the 577 deputies.
In this majority one also finds support for Israel a critical component of post-October 7th electoral politics in Western nation.
The "victory" of the Left not as substantial as hyped.
One important factor in all this is the Fifth Republic constitution of France which gives the President stronger powers than an American President has.
President Macron can among other things pass laws without legislative approval (Article 49:3) and dismiss the National Assembly if chooses to trigger new elections.

"In these times of gravity, the French armed forces are more than ever a foundation of the nation"

The Ukraine War cited in Macron's remarks.
More of a signal one senses that the Left in France will be locked out of power or marginalized in the months ahead how that materializes remains to be seen.
For now that is the story of France and the Yellow Vests.
