ISRAELI POLITICS:  MASSIVE OPPOSITION PROTESTS AND CALLS FOR 'COMPROMISE TALKS' ON JUDICIAL REFORM

                               (NEWS, ANALYSIS, COMMENT)

                              (UPDATED WITH LATER NEWS)

In the aftermath of the massive opposition protests Saturday night there have been calls for "compromise" and "mediation" over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's judicial reform plan.

First they came from President Isaac Herzog.

Now former Defense Minister Benny Gantz who leads the "Military Industrial Complex" political faction in Parliament (National Unity Party) wants talks over judicial reform.

Mr. Netanyahu says he remains committed to his plan only minor changes are possible as he sees it.

Underlying the debate over judicial reform is the ongoing prosecution of Netanyahu by Israel's judicial system.

That is seen as a driving force behind his push for changes in the system.

If a "compromise" actually materializes in the coming days an end to Mr. Netanyahu's prosecution would have to be on the table to achieve it...TIMES OF ISRAEL NEWS STORY...
