FRANCE LATEST:  PHASE FIVE OF 'YELLOW VESTS' PROTEST SET FOR TOMORROW

"The people will demonstrate on Saturday"

Maxime Nicolle speaks for the 'yellow vests' in Versailles, France 12/13/2018

Even before Tuesday's terrorist attack in Strasbourg, the call was out for the next phase of the 'yellow vests' protest on Saturday December 15th.

In the aftermath of the attack, France's Justice Minister said that it was time to end the protests in light of what happened in Strasbourg.

But there were questions and controversy over the government's tactics, which presents a message saying that since President Macron's speech on Monday offering concessions and the Tuesday terrorist attack, it is time for the protests to end.

But yesterday (Thursday) two representatives of the protest movement appeared at the Hall of the Jeu de Paume in Versailles, symbol of the French Revolution.  This is the spot where on June 17, 1789 rebellious commoners and others who joined them swore an oath to give France a solidly grounded Constitution.

One of those who appeared was Maxime Nicolle who said the people are more mobilized than ever and that people who did not participate before are ready to do so now.

The other, Priscilla Ludosky, said there is "blatant injustice" in France and that taxes must be dramatically lowered to relieve a nation:

"exhausted by a colossal tax burden"

She said there must be a dramatic reduction in privileges for government officials and benefits given to them by taxpayers.

Both called for the people to be given a sovereign role through a:

"referendum to amend the Constitution"

The French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner says he wished the police could do 'their real job' instead of dealing with the yellow vests and expressed his confidence in the ability of the police to deal with tomorrow's protests.

The Police Prefect in Paris says 8,000 police will be mobilized tomorrow including the CRS riot police, the Mobile Guards and special mobile units of the Gendarmarie.   It appears that last weeks interception, search and arrest tactics will be employed to attempt to preempt the arrival of protesters in the center of the city.
