SYRIA LATEST:  SYRIAN ARMY LAUNCHES NEW ATTACK ON SECOND FRONT IN SOUTHWESTERN SYRIA

The Syrian Army has followed up on its successful advance in the northeastern Daraa region with a new line of attack just east of the city of Daraa.

This attack could cut off jihadist forces south of the first line of attack from the Jordanian border and or resupply from Daraa.

The successful attack in the northeast is reported to have captured equipment and ammunition stocks from the jihadist forces.   Among the captured equipment were five tanks.

Opposition sources say refugees have fled the fighting southwards towards the Jordanian border.

On Wednesday (June 27th) Russian and Syrian air attacks were underway in the Daraa region according to pro-government Twitter feeds.

The "WithinSyriaBlog" Twitter also warned about false reports online that Iranians are involved in the Daraa offensive.     Israel's military attacks in Syria are based on the notion of Iranian involvement.

The  Russians announced Iranian disengagement from areas near the border of Israel and Syria published a list of units involved in the offensive, all Syrian.

The current phase of the offensive if successful will retake the Daraa region but the Quneitra region closest to Israel and the Golan Heights, will remain in jihadist opposition hands.
