The Oregon Standoff protest was launched in January 2016 by Ammon Bundy to protest the court ordered return of Dwight and Steven Hammond to federal prison for lighting a backfire to protect their land from a brushfire.
They were ordered to serve five year mandatory sentences as "terrorists" because some federal land ended up being burned in the fire.
Now the mainstream media has been "motivated" to talk about a possible pardon for the Hammonds from President Donald Trump.
President Trump's decision to commute the life sentence of Alice Johnson on drug charges was accompanied by MSM reporting about some 30 others being considered for pardons including the Hammonds.
To be perfectly frank about the situation, Trump's decision to intervene in the case of a black woman under a harsh sentence on drug charges after meeting with Kim Kardashian to discuss "prison reform" is delving into territory firmly occupied by Democrat Party advocates like Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton over the years.
Digging into the notion of a pardon for the Hammonds is a way for media elements hostile to Trump and supportive of Democrats to "change the subject" to the Hammonds and the "right wing militia" elements said to have been involved in the protest on their behalf.
Mrs. Hammond told "OregonLive" she hasn't heard that the POTUS is considering a pardon but also believes that if anyone would help her husband and son it would be Donald Trump.
Getting back to the notion of "right wing militia" lets not forget when the Idaho III percent rolled into the protest site while the media were talking to Ammon Bundy a few days after the protest started, Ammon Bundy asked them to leave.

Militia elements were in evidence at a nearby encampment but cut and ran when the FBI launched its violent operation to arrest protest leaders that killed LaVoy Finicum and injured Ryan Bundy on the afternoon of Janaury 26, 2016.
Ammon Bundy, his brother Ryan, LaVoy Finicum etc. operated non-violently during the protest holding meetings to tell local farmers and ranchers how to non-violently retake their land from the federal government.
