SYRIA LATEST: RUSSIAN AIR FORCE BOMBS TARGETS IN SOUTHWEST SYRIA, ISRAEL REPORTS THREAT

Opponents of the Syrian government and pro-Syrian regime sources agree that the Russian Aerospace Forces (Air Force) launched attacks in support of a government offensive in the Daraa region of southwest Syria over the weekend.

Different sources said anywhere from 20 to 25 strikes were launched by five Russian aircraft at Busra al Harir, a town northeast of the city of Daraa.    The strikes on the town came as Syrian forces press their attack onto the town after seizing two nearby villages.

   

The Syrian government offensive for the moment is focused on areas in the northeast of the Daraa region, some distance from the Jordanian and Israeli borders.

Israel reported firing a Patriot missile in response to a drone approaching its border this afternoon (June 24th).

Israel, which claims an Iranian threat coming against it from Syria, has frequently bombed targets in Syria during the six year civil war.

No Iranian units are participating in the offensive according to the list of units provided by the Syrian government.

Pro-Syrian government sources claim units of anti-government forces are switching sides to the government in the face of the offensive and that more will do so in the days ahead.
