PROTEST IN NANTES TODAY AGAINST PRESIDENT MACRON'S 'COUP DE FORCE' IN NAMING A PRIME MINISTER NOT FROM THE LEFT

In the past any period under France's Fifth Republic constitution of 1958 where the National Assembly was controlled by a political party different from the President was a period described as "cohabitation".

But this week President Emmanuel Macron launching a new chapter of Fifth Republic history by selecting a Prime Minister not formally leading any political faction but with a track record of government service as part of the Liberal Capitalist "Right".

Macron speaking of a government 'demanding coexistence' that was imposed due to the July National Assembly election results.

There's a sense of this new French government being the kind of government recently implemented in the Netherlands after last year's election.

That's when the so-called "Far Right" won the election in the form of Geert Wilders Party of Freedom but in the end Mr. Wilders was denied the post of Prime Minister.

His party was allowed in a broader formation that included Liberal Capitalist factions headed by "Right" politician Dick Schoof who later led the Dutch spy agency the AIVD before becoming Prime Minister.

This type of government formation implies if not cries out the notion of a national crisis economic and or military.

The Anti-Capitalist Left the New Popular Front may have won the plurality of seats in July's election but there was no way the former banker turned politician Emmanuel Macron would let them into power.

In addition to be opposed to his agenda the Left also includes strong Anti-Israel elements totally unacceptable especially after last October 7th's attack on Israel by Hamas.
